Best Memories

Looking back from now, I see that one of the most pleasant memories of my childhood was throwing up.

Whenever I got sick or ate something I shouldn't have, I would throw up. My mother would always wet a wash cloth with cold water and fold it twice lengthwise so that it just fit on my forehead. Then she would hold the washcloth on my forehead and rub my back gently as I threw up.

After I finished she would unfold the washcloth and wipe my face with it. During the entire experience, I felt totally loved and safe. At the time, I didn't realize my mother was building such lasting pleasant memories for me.

This morning about 3 AM my 10-year-old stepson threw up. I knew just what to do.
